Wisdom for the new year - Proverbs 6

After a night of falling asleep and not getting this out, I was hoping to find some wisdom on getting at least 6 hours of sleep....but...

There are six things that the Lord hates,

seven that are an abomination to him:

haughty eyes, a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked plans,

feet that make haste to run to evil,

a false witness who breathes out lies,

and one who sows discord among brothers. (Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV)

We don't hear about God hating much, but many of these things are all throughout the New Testament. So....I guess He new we would struggle with them. Maybe not shedding innocent blood, but being arrogant, telling lies, creating dissension. Our flesh loves these things and they produce many issues for the 21st century church.

But maybe we should focus on the converse, which we assume what God loves, what God IS...Humility, honesty, creating harmony, it reminds me very much of the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5-7, where the Lord describes those who are blessed.

Shouldn't we beg God for those attributes? But it requires laying down "self" to do it, only with the Holy Spirit can we accomplish that.

Our desire must be more Him and less of me. We need to feed upon His Word and take time for reflective prayer.

In Christ,
Steve
