Wisdom for the new year - Proverbs 8

"I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,

and I find knowledge and discretion.

The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.

Pride and arrogance and the way of evil

and perverted speech I hate.

I have counsel and sound wisdom;

I have insight; I have strength. (Proverbs 8:12-14 ESV)

All too many times people want to be saved from their past sins and then will return to them and get as close as possible to them without crossing some self determined line. "The fear of the Lord is the hatred of evil" means that we need to marry our Lord and stop dating all of the other harlots that vie for our attention. Not only stop dating them, run them out of town.

Then it condemns the two silent sins, pride and arrogance. The worst thing about these are that sometimes everyone knows you struggle with these except the oblivious sinner. Regularly ask the Lord to reveal these areas of weakness in our character, because most of us struggle with them.

In Christ,
Steve
