Wisdom for the new year - Proverbs 17

The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,
and the LORD tests hearts.

(Pr 17:3) ESV

When gold and silver are heated up the impurities separate and float
to the top. The same things often happen in our lives, when there is a
stressful situation, whatever that is hidden inside that is ungodly
often boils to the surface. When we are under stress all of those
feelings that good times smooth over overtake us.

Many times in a contentious meeting or in a disagreement with our
spouses, we find ourselves saying things that we wish we had not.
Where does it come from? It comes from the inner recesses of our
heart. We must examine our core attitudes with respect to scripture.
Are they they thoughts of Christ or the flesh? As we emerse ourselves
in His Word, slowly, over time we take captive those fleshly thoughts
and replace them with Christ's.

In Christ,
Steve
