Do you notice how tightly believe and obey are correlated in in verse 36. Too many suppose that Jesus died for a fire insurance policy from Hell, that they can go through some process in a local church and magically, they get to go to Heaven. Even in the old testament, your belief affects your behavior. See this reference from Isaiah...
Isaiah 55:7 let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the LORD, that he may
have compassion on him,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
The wicked and unrighteous must change <repent> and return to the Lord. Notice who left, not the Lord, you and I. We all have instances of rebellion that lead us away from His perfect plan in our lives. He is gracious to pardon us and accept us back because He sees us washed clean through Christ's blood.
If you are not close to the Lord right now, He is right there waiting patiently for your return. He doesn't need you, He wants the best for you and in order to reach that pinnacle your must be working out His plan for you.
Many Blessings,
Steve
