Wisdom for the new year - Proverbs 20

Do not say, "I will repay evil";
Wait for the LORD, and He will save you.

Man's steps are ordained by the LORD,
How then can man understand his way?
(Proverbs 20:22, 24 NASB)

Too many times we overestimate our ability to discern circumstances. We think that we have all of the evidence and ability to pass judgement. However, these closely related passages clearly show we are lacking.

The only way that we can walk is by faith, because we can't see the big picture. When great things happen, we must praise the Lord for His blessings. When bad things happen, we must remember that promise that Paul gave in Romans 8:28 "and we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

If we are His, we have committed our lives to his service. Unlike what is taught by many on TV, that does not always mean health and wealth. Of the original 12 disciples, only John was not KILLED for his faith in Christ. Please don't fear becoming a Christian, however, remember if you are His, you will spend eternity with God. This life, no matter how we depart, is only a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.

For Him,
Steve
